Disabling or removing an edge function from config.toml doesn't work with branching

I have added an edge function to my supabase project and declared it in the config.toml so it gets deployed. So far, so good. But when I disable or remove that function again from config.toml, the change doesn't get applied on the hosted Supabase instance? Is this a bug or is this on purpose?
